BIM Implementation, avoid common mistakes

BIM Implementation, avoid common mistakes

BIM-implementation:

Read here about the most common errors during the BIM implementation.

Clarity about the desired and final output is the key to an efficient and accurate BIM implementation.

BIMND has already helped hundreds of companies to implement BIM. Below we set out a number of things that may help you prevent mistakes that are often made.

  1. The absence of a BIM Execution Plan and the failure to record the BIM protocol.

In this document, we set out the working standards that parties have agreed to. Failure by the team members to comply with the BEP can lead to more errors and will delay the process. By supplementing the BEP with BIM usage protocols, an efficient workflow can be achieved

  2. Purchasing unsuitable hardware and hosting techniques

Companies often buy expensive hardware and software packages to keep up with the latest developments. Choosing the right products that suit the nature of the work must therefore be done in a cost-effective manner. Sometimes outsourcing certain things can be cheaper. So always consult a BIM expert/ manager to see what is really necessary to purchase. Things like CPU speed, memory size, graphics card, hard drive type and size, and the number of cores are crucial. And how should you store the data ( cloud versus local), etc.

  3. Incorrect 2d drawings and files, inaccuracy of the construction information when e.g. setting up BIM existing state.

Check whether the drawings still correspond to the existing situation and if not, new information must be provided either by new drawings or by laser scanning on site.

  4. Wasting time modelling the excess

We often see too many superfluous elements being modelled in the various stages. Determine together with the client which output is required and which is not. So agree on which LODs are needed at which stages of the project.

  5. Do not make the BIM coordinator the project leader

BIM coordinators provide services related to BIM ( software) They thus provide conformity and correctness of modelling.

  6. Compiling a good BIM team

Mismatches in capacities of BIM team members must be addressed. The members of a team can have different BIM strengths. Use each other's talents to the advantage of the team.
